Target Group

This course is designed for all seafarers designated to take charge of a survival craft in an emergency situation. The course covers requirements specified by the IMO STCW.

The course training will prepare candidates involved in taking charge of the launching or handling of survival craft to achieve an appropriate level of competence and confidence in these operations.

Course Objectives

During the course participants will demonstrate to a minimum standard of competence set out in STCW: Table A-VI/2-1 Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats

    • Launching Arrangements for Survival Crafts and Rescue Boats Equipment located in Survival Crafts and Rescue Boats Launching of Survival Crafts and Rescue Boats
    • Actions to be taken when Abandoning Ship
    • Survival Management in Survival Crafts
    • Operating Engines in Survival Crafts and Rescue Boats
    • Marshalling of Life-rafts
    • Retrieval of Man-Overboard using a Rescue Boat and Rescue Boat by Compass Location Aids and Communication Equipment
    • Methods of Rescue
    • Radio equipment
    • Signalling for rescue
    • First aid application to survivors

Course Duration : 4 days

All participants must be in possession of a valid medical and and basic safety certificate.
