Provides participants who are required to take charge of a fast rescue craft (FRC) with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and competently launch, manoeuvre and recover an FRC.
On completion of this activity, participants will be able to demonstrate a competence in the theory and practice of the following:

· Launch and recovery | · Man overboard procedures |
· Helicopter recovery | · Search patterns |
· General handling skills | · Casualty handling |
COMPETENCY
Participants are required to pass an assessment of practical skills and a written or verbal examination of theory.
PRE REQUISITE
STCW Regulation V1/2 “states” that the mandatory minimum requirements for the issue of certificates of proficiency in fast rescue boats are:
Every candidate for a certificate of proficiency in fast rescue boats shall:

- Hold a certificate of proficiency in survival craft / rescue boats other than fast rescue boats
- Have attended an approved training course
- Meet the standard of competency for certificates of proficiency in fast rescue boats set out in section A-V1/2, paragraphs 5 to 8 of the STCW Code.
- be not less than 18 years
- Valid First Aid Certificate
Note: Seafarers are required to be medically fit as per Regulation 1/9 of STCW 95. Other trainees are required to be medically fit for FRC training including their muscular-skeletal, respiratory system, eyes and ears as a minimum.
COURSE DURATION
The course is conducted over two (3) days.
METHOD OF TRAINING
This course is best conducted utilising the Rescue craft that participants on completion will crew. Classroom theory sessions followed by practical periods.
