Offshore personnel assigned to serve as firefighters on offshore installations.

Prerequisites

  • Medical screening completed upon arrival at the training center (verified by the instructor in class).

  • Personal identification presented and verified in class.

Objective

Equip participants with the knowledge and practical skills required to operate as members of an offshore fire team. On completion, participants should demonstrate competence in line with STCW-95, Table A-VI/1-2.

Course Content

  • Principles of fire prevention and risk assessment

  • Fire triangle and sources of ignition

  • Combustible materials, fire behavior, and fire spread

  • Fire classes and selection of appropriate extinguishing media

  • Extinguishing agents and portable/firefighting equipment

  • Fixed firefighting systems (overview and safe use)

  • Detection systems and alarm procedures

  • Escape routes, muster points, and communication

  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety procedures

  • Fire drill planning and execution; team roles and coordination

  • Extinguishing tactics and decision-making under stress

  • Self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA): donning, checks, search techniques, and firefighting in smoke-filled environments
