This Product is for personnel in the onshore oil and gas industry.
What does this Product cover?
This Product introduces learners to the specific emergency response issues and regimes relevant to onshore oil and gas operations, in relation to the proactive and reactive responses for personnel in the event of an onshore emergency.
The objectives of this training are that learners will be able to:
(a) Identify the hazards which are specific to the onshore oil and gas industry that can lead to cause or increase the likelihood of fire.
(b) demonstrate, in a simulated environment, the emergency response actions during an onshore emergency.
(c) demonstrate that they can effectively use basic firefighting equipment, and practice self-rescue techniques in low visibility situations e.g. smoke-filled areas.
(d) demonstrate first aid techniques.
Entry Requirements
Medical Entry Requirements
Training activities contained within this Product may include physically demanding and potentially stressful elements. All personnel who participate in such activities must be capable of participating fully.
OPITO-approved Centres are therefore required, as a minimum, to ensure that prior to participating in practical exercises the learners must either:
a) Possess an operator-approved medical certificate, or
b) Undergoes medical screening by completing an appropriate medical screening form provided by the OPITO-approved centre
Product Achievement Requirements
To achieve the Basic Onshore Emergency Response Standard the learner will need to complete the 3 mandatory units.
Guided Learning Hours
8 hours
A ratio of 40% theory to 60% practical is appropriate for this training.

Please note: If the expiry date on the learners previous certificate is within 3 months prior of the course enrolment date then the date of the new certificate should correspond with the expiry date of the existing/previous certificate unless stated otherwise by the Duty Holder or Asset Owner or Operator.
