OPITO HELICOPTER UNDERWATER ESCAPE TRAINING (HUET)

The Helicopter Underwater Escape Training (HUET) standard is an established, industry‑recognised programme developed by OPITO to prepare offshore passengers for helicopter travel. It provides the essential knowledge and practical skills needed to respond effectively in the unlikely event of a helicopter ditching or emergency landing over water.

The OPITO-approved Helicopter Underwater Escape Training (HUET) with EBS (5095) is a critical safety and emergency response program for personnel entering or returning to the offshore energy sector. Specifically designed for individuals who will be issued a rebreather Emergency Breathing System (EBS) during transit, this course equips you with the life-saving skills needed to survive a helicopter emergency.

Through a combination of theoretical instruction and highly immersive practical simulations, learners will master pre-flight safety, in-flight protocols, and the exact techniques required to safely escape a ditched helicopter.

🎯 Target Audience This course is mandatory for offshore workers, contractors, and specialists traveling to and from oil and gas installations or vessels via helicopter.

⚙️ Course Content & Modules During the training, participants will demonstrate their ability to use safety equipment and execute emergency procedures in a controlled, simulated environment. The curriculum covers:

Helicopter Travel: Essential pre-flight and in-flight safety procedures.
Helicopter Emergencies: Recognizing, preparing for, and responding to in-flight emergencies and ditching scenarios.
Helicopter Escape Techniques: Hands-on, practical exercises focused on safely exiting a submerged or capsized helicopter.
EBS Module: The correct deployment and operation of a standard rebreather Emergency Breathing System.
CA-EBS Module: Familiarization and practical application of the Compressed Air Emergency Breathing System.

📜 Certification & Validity

Validity: Upon successful completion, learners receive an OPITO-approved certificate valid for 4 years.
Renewal Rule: If you are renewing a certificate within 3 months prior to its expiration date, the new certificate will seamlessly align with your previous expiry date (unless otherwise specified by your Duty Holder, Asset Owner, or Operator).
