Operator course covers completion equipment/operations with optional specializations in Coiled Tubing, Wireline, or Snubbing, and leads to a 2-year IWCF certificate upon passing.
Recommended for personnel who must hold an IWCF certificate in intervention roles—e.g., Wireline Operators, Coiled Tubing Operators, Snubbing Operators, and other field staff performing well intervention tasks.
IWCF pre-registration with a valid 6-digit Candidate Registration (CR) Number.
Prior certification isn’t required; however, experience in assistant driller/driller or relevant intervention roles is expected.
Pathway note: IWCF Levels 2→3→4 are generally sequential; first-time candidates should complete Level 2 before Level 3/4 (final placement depends on work experience).
By the end of the course, candidates will be able to:
Describe the impacts of a well control incident and how to prevent escalation.
Explain well integrity management across the well life cycle (construction to abandonment).
Define and apply hydrostatic, formation, and fracture pressure concepts.
Apply barrier philosophy and barrier management to intervention operations.
Perform risk identification/monitoring during interventions (e.g., inflow testing, well integrity testing, shut-in, rig up/rig down, annulus pressure testing).
Describe the functions, applications, and placement of key completion equipment.
Interactive lectures, videos/animations, and group discussions.
Workbooks and guided self-study tasks to reinforce learning.
Scenario-based exercises aligned to operator responsibilities in real intervention operations.
Candidates must select at least one optional module to be assessed from:
Coiled Tubing Operations
Wireline Operations
Snubbing Operations
Assessments: IWCF written exams (and practical where applicable).
Pass mark: ≥70% in all required IWCF assessments → IWCF Level 3 & 4 certificate valid for 2 years.
Note: The optional module selection cannot be changed once assessment is completed.
