GWO Basic Technical Training (BTT)
As the global wind industry continues to expand across onshore and offshore projects, the demand for technically competent personnel is rapidly increasing. The GWO Basic Technical Training (BTT) course is designed to provide participants with the essential technical knowledge and hands-on skills required to work safely and effectively on wind turbines.
This program serves as a foundation for wind turbine technicians, enabling them to understand key systems and perform basic maintenance tasks in a highly technical and safety-critical environment.
TARGET GROUP
The GWO Basic Technical Training (BTT) is intended for individuals who are working, or planning to work, in the wind energy sector, particularly in roles involving installation, operation, and maintenance of wind turbines.
This course is suitable for:
- Wind turbine technicians
- Mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic technicians
- Engineers entering the renewable energy sector
- Personnel transitioning from oil & gas to wind energy
It is especially relevant for those who require a strong technical foundation to support their career development in the wind industry.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
The objective of the GWO Basic Technical Training (BTT) is to equip participants with the core technical competencies required to understand, operate, and maintain wind turbine systems safely.
Upon successful completion of the training, participants will be able to:
- Understand the operating principles of wind turbine systems
- Identify key components within mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems
- Perform basic maintenance tasks following safe working practices
- Recognize potential faults and risks associated with turbine operations
- Apply technical knowledge in real-world wind turbine environments
This course ensures that participants gain both theoretical understanding and practical awareness, forming a solid base for advanced technical training.
COURSE MODULES
The GWO Basic Technical Training (BTT) program consists of four core technical modules:
- Mechanical
Covers the main mechanical components of wind turbines, including gearboxes, drivetrain systems, and mechanical transmission. Participants will understand how these systems function and how to maintain them safely. - Electrical
Introduces fundamental electrical concepts, including circuits, components, and safety procedures. Participants will learn how to work safely with electrical systems and identify common faults. - Hydraulic
Explains the principles and operation of hydraulic systems used in wind turbines, including components, control systems, and maintenance practices. - Bolt Tightening
Provides practical training on correct bolt tightening techniques, including torque application, tightening sequences, and safety requirements. This module is essential for ensuring structural integrity during turbine installation and maintenance.
All modules are delivered through a combination of classroom learning and practical exercises, ensuring participants can apply their knowledge in real operational scenarios.
VALIDITY
The GWO Basic Technical Training (BTT) is an enduring qualification, meaning that no validity period applies to this certification.
Once completed, participants are recognized as having achieved the required basic technical knowledge for working in the wind industry.
However, participants are encouraged to continue with advanced or specialized training to stay aligned with evolving technologies and operational requirements.
FITNESS
Participants must be medically fit and capable of completing both theoretical and practical elements of the course.
As the training involves technical hands-on activities, participants will be required to complete a medical declaration prior to attendance.
