OPITO T-BOSIET (Digital Delivery)
In offshore oil and gas operations, especially in tropical regions, personnel face unique challenges such as high temperatures, humidity, and environmental exposure. To ensure safety, the industry has developed the OPITO T-BOSIET (Tropical Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training) standard.
With the introduction of Digital Delivery, this essential training is now more flexible, efficient, and accessible, while maintaining full compliance with OPITO standards.
What is T-BOSIET Digital Delivery?
OPITO T-BOSIET (Digital Delivery) is a blended learning approach, where:
- Learners complete the underpinning theoretical knowledge online
- Practical training and final assessment are conducted at an OPITO-approved training centre
This model ensures that all learning outcomes are achieved while allowing learners to prepare in advance.
Why Digital T-BOSIET is important
Traditional offshore training requires full classroom attendance. However, Digital Delivery introduces a more modern approach:
- Learn theory anytime, anywhere
- Reduce time spent at training centres
- Focus on practical skills during in-person sessions
This method improves learning efficiency and knowledge retention, as participants arrive already prepared for hands-on exercises.
Additionally, Digital Delivery helps:
- Reduce travel and accommodation costs
- Minimize time away from work
- Improve workforce scheduling for companies
Course objectives
The T-BOSIET Digital Delivery training aims to equip participants with the essential safety awareness and emergency response skills required for offshore work in tropical environments.
Upon completion, learners will be able to:
- Identify offshore hazards and associated risks
- Understand offshore safety regulations and safety management systems
- Demonstrate safe helicopter travel and emergency escape procedures
- Apply sea survival and first aid techniques
- Use firefighting equipment and perform self-rescue in emergency situations
Course structure (Blended Learning)
1. Digital Learning (Online Theory)
Participants complete theoretical modules such as:
- Offshore safety induction
- Helicopter safety and emergency procedures
- Sea survival and first aid
- Firefighting and self-rescue
This phase ensures learners understand key concepts before practical training.
2. Practical Training (On-site)
At an OPITO-approved training centre, participants will:
- Demonstrate helicopter escape (HUET)
- Perform sea survival exercises
- Practice firefighting techniques
- Complete emergency response scenarios
The focus is entirely on practical application and competency assessment.
Who is this training for?
This training is designed for:
- Personnel new to offshore oil and gas
- Workers returning after a break
- Individuals working in tropical offshore environments
- Personnel required to complete offshore safety training before deployment
Certification and validity
Upon successful completion, participants receive:
- OPITO T-BOSIET certificate
- Valid for 4 years
Refresher training (T-FOET) is required before expiry.
Key advantages of T-BOSIET Digital
Digital Delivery provides clear advantages:
- Flexible learning schedule
- Reduced classroom time
- Enhanced preparation before practical training
- Cost and time efficiency
It represents a shift from traditional training to a more modern, learner-focused approach.
